Spring Table - bottles…

Using a cluster of various little bottles & stems of foliage and/or flowers is a wonderfully flexible and versatile way to decorate your table in any season.

The beauty of the little bottles is that you can group them together to create a main centrepiece or group in little clusters down the centre of a longer table.

If you’re creating a large centrepiece which you would like to remove when you’re eating then pop the bottles on a plate or tray when you’re arranging, this can be easily lifted off as one.

The bottles can flow throughout the house; dotted on hall tables and arranging larger clusters where you would like more impact.

Pop candles in bottles too, adding different sizes and scale to create interest.

I have used a limited colour palette of clear glass with green and white foliage and flowers. By doing this it means you can afford to be quite wild with the design and let the foliage do its own thing… in this case Spirea.

We have plenty of little bottles, both new and vintage which will create an easy yet interesting Tablescape whatever the season.

Are you ready to get into the garden??

•Daikiba & Mainichi Secateurs - fabulously sharp Japanese steel & easy to sharpen, I just love mine… I’m not particularly kind to mine and they have put up with a lot.

•Mini Shears - they may be mini but they are super efficient; carbon steel blades on oak handles with grippy rubber sleeves.

•Loppers - super strong forged carbon steel blades on oak handles; suitable for branches approx 2.5cm depending on how hard & dense the wood is; cut at a 45* angle.

•Hori Hori - once you have used one of these you’ll bearly use another hand tool. Fabulous for weeding and planting bulbs.

•Golden Spade - Small 820mm H & 980g, Standard 972mm H & 1.75kg, Long 1100mm H & 1.86kg. Incredibly strong, very sharp & light however they will not flex or break under heavy use.

•Gardening Gloves - summer & winter, just pop in the washing machine & they fit like a glove!!

The perfect maintenance kit… crean mate, sharpening stone & camellia oil.

•Crean Mate - perfect for removing sap and rust from your blades

•#1000 Sharpening Stone - a good all round general sharpening stone

•Camellia Oil - protects your tools from rust, use it when cleaning. Leaves a dry, non oily finish.

Flowering Spring bulbs are a fabulous way to create a centre piece with impact … so easy to do and once the flowers have finished doing their thing, plant the bulbs in the garden to enjoy next year…

Téte a téte are gorgeously sunny & bright; the foraged silver birch breaks up the arrangement giving it a more organic feel and a bit of movement.

Other flowering bulbs or spring plants can obviously be used depending on your choice of colour palette or feel that you are going for… Muscari in white or blue have an upright form initially becoming more wild & organic as they mature, as do tulips which come in a variety of colours & sizes.

We have fabulous flowering bulbs and plants which can be used; Muscari, téte a téte, violas, Anemone Blande and plenty containers (I used a salad bowl…)

Made in Britain, these plant supports are dipped to create an attractive rusty finish which also helps to protect the steel; they blend into the background of your garden leaving the plants to show themselves off.

The supports can be left outside all year long which provides a fabulous structure to your borders in the winter months.
